The Surprising Creators Plant-Based Meat
Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods are dominating the relatively new market plant-based meat with a strong commitment to the environment.
The New York Times reports the entry of major food companies like Tyson, Smithfield, Perdue, Hormel, and Nestlé, filling supermarket shelves with their plant-based meat options.
While the entrance of these big firms could bring the plant-based meat sector mainstream with massive distribution and larger audience, some environmental activists are worried that they are just looking to co-opt the movement by absorbing smaller start-ups or draw the attention away from other environmental misdeeds.
With analysts projecting the market for plant-based protein and lab-created meat alternatives could be worth as much as $85 billion by 2030, the competition has just heated up.
